Glittery Postcard Ornament Tutorial

Completed Glittered Postcard
Ready to hang

Martha Stewart Cherish frame (punch around the page set)

Postcard Fitting after slightly trimming edges

Christmas is coming and the weather is changing so most of us are indoors a lot more. I always find winter to be the best time to get out the craft supplies and start a project. This is an easy holiday project to create old time Christmas postcards that you can hang from a tree as ornaments. You could also use decorative gift tags or recycle a greeting card and apply the same technique to create your hanging ornaments.

Estimated Cost:      $10.00 -$15.00
Time to Complete:  20 minutes
Primary Technique: General Crafts
Difficulty Level:      Beginner
Holiday:                 Christmas

Materials Needed:
White Cardstock, any solid or patterned cardstock
Rotary Cutter
Fiskars Punch Hand 1/4" Circle
Sakura Hobby Craft 3D Crystal Lacquer or Aleene’s Paper Glaze
Art Institute Glitter .5 oz. Ultrafine Transparent Crystal
Ranger Inkssentials Wonder Tape Roll 1/8"
(ANY) Martha Stewart Punch Around The Page set
Dover Publications, Inc. Antique postcards or any postcard or tag you wish to use.
Ribbon any color

Directions:
1. Depending on the size of the postcard you will be using I would first trim the patterned cardstock using the rotary cutter to the dimensions you will need for the Martha Stewart punch around the page set. I used 5” X 6.75” with the Cherish punch set for my example. Punch out the frame according to the directions that were provided with the punch set.

2. If needed, trim around the postcard you will be using with the rotary cutter so it fits inside the punched frame. To make the ornament sturdy cut out a white piece of cardstock the same size as your postcard and attach to the back using Wonder Tape.

3. Using your fingers to spread the 3D Crystal Lacquer add several drops until the postcard is coated. Now pinch the glitter between your fingers and lightly cover the entire postcard. I use my fingers because I do not want a heavy coating of glitter to cover up the picture on the postcard. Set aside to dry.

4. Once completely dried attach glittered postcard to frame with Wonder Tape and punch a hole in the center top of the postcard using the Fiskars ¼” circle punch. Add ribbon or string so you can hang it from the tree.

Note: The Art Glitter is an ultrafine transparent product that does not cover your image. I would not recommend using a heavier glitter.
