Why, oh why think Christmas in July!?

  • Dash Away Candlelight Santa Figure
I was delighted to write a Christmas in July article for those of you thinking about the holidays.  For some fun holiday ideas check out the Patience Brewster Company for those not familiar with them stop by their website and see all the fabulous creative holiday products and Christmas ornaments.

Well, June has already flown by and I keep thinking Christmas will be right around the corner.  With the long hot summer days we are having in the northwest I start to long for cooler days and crisp nights.  I tend to stay indoors more to avoid the heat and spend my time creating holiday cards, crafts, reviewing recipes and surfing the web for ideas.  If I am going to make my cards by hand I have to start early. It also gives me time to update my Pinterest page with holiday ideas and decorations from people that have a lot more talent and creativity than me.

I start saving grocery coupons and look for sales for the Boy Scouts of America annual (Scouting for food drive).I find I can purchase a lot more food and sundries for those in need if I start early.  I start several boxes and each trip to the grocery store pick up items and start filling the boxes.  I always get a laugh at how excited the boys are when they come to the front door and pick up the heavy boxes.  Each troop receives a patch for their uniforms and competes to see who picked up the most pounds of food.

It really is true the saying it’s better to give than receive.

I hope this year so far has brought you joy, happiness and lots of creativity.

Diane

  1. Hello Diane, I have enjoyed reading your post, and yes it seems strange to begin Christmas in July but when your are a crafter the earlier the better. What a super thing to do to help people in need and to use the Boy Scouts to help deliver. We have something similar in Scotland that they will deliver Christmas cards so saving on postage, just give a donation. However the festive season will be here befor we know it, the years seem to go by quicker every year, hugs Kate x

  2. Oh how lovely, we don't have anything like that here.
Just to let you know I have made 162 Christmas cards to date and I hope to get another 50 done next week, then I can start on my own cards.
    Enjoy the weekend.

I'm trying not to think about Christmas just yet but know I should. Good for you on helping out the scouts!! I know those boxes of food go to people in need - and that's one of the wonderful thing about the holidays is helping people out!

Thank you for your visit and your lovely comment - I shall get through all the chemo eventually and just have to try and take it a day at a time. I'm feeling a bit better today so hopefully will have a couple of weeks' creating time before the next one comes around!!

  8. A delightful Santa figurine. (?ornament?) Sounds like you are in full swing of the Christmas spirit already. So very organized, and I admire what you are doing for the Boy Scouts. Truly, we do get more pleasure from giving...it helps both the receiver & the giver. Happy wkend, and TFS

  11. I really enjoyed reading your Christmas post Diane. We do similar boxes for our local charity to send abroad. It's fun choosing things the other people will hopefully like, especially the children's boxes. We've not even thought about it yet though so good on you for your early start. Keep up the good work! 14. This is awesome!! I love that ornament and so nice of you to start collecting for the boy scouts. We have food drives and a giving tree at work that we do for others during the holidays. I do a photo card instead of make my cards. I will make my cards when my daughter moves out of the house!!

  16. I love your idea of picking up a little bit of food every time you go, I usually do it just for the time and I could probably have more if I did it like that.

  19. Thanks so much for the reminder that we need to get started early with any crafts, gifts, and donations we want to make for Christmas. I've only made a few Christmas cards so far, but I've also been very busy this month hosting a baby shower, crafting day, and next week a tea party. I guess the Christmas planning will have to wait for August!
